Pastor Daryl Hee

Kahu Daryl Hee grew up in Kailua, Oʻahu, in a family where faith was part of everyday life. His mother would gather Daryl and his brother each Saturday to read Bible stories, and his father simply called God “My Friend,” always reminding them that their Friend would take care of them.

Daryl’s own journey with First Chinese Church began in 1985, when a high school classmate invited him to what he thought was just a camping trip. It turned out to be a First Chinese youth camp. There, he experienced the unconditional love of God through the staff and other campers, and that experience eventually led him to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Before long, Daryl was serving as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, worship leader, and Youth Coordinator. For nearly 15 years, he helped lead youth activities, camps, service projects, and Vacation Bible Schools, always hoping that young people who came through the ministry would experience the same love of God that had first welcomed him.

Over the years, Kahu Daryl continued serving in many areas of ministry, including worship, men’s ministry, prison ministry, youth ministry, Bible studies, leadership development, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and missions. He later served for ten years as Associate Pastor and Worship Pastor at Legacy Community Christian Church in Kailua. He was ordained by Foursquare in 2023 and earned a Bachelor of Theological Studies degree from Pacific Rim Christian University.

After many years away, Kahu Daryl and his wife, Desiree, are especially grateful to return to First Chinese Church of Christ. As he puts it, “It feels like coming home…this is home!”

Kahu Daryl hopes to lead with the heart of Jesus, serving with humility, teaching God’s Word in relevant ways, following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and equipping the church to share the Gospel and care well for one another.
